Surrey's extending activities

Extending Activities is part of the new 5 hour offer for young people in England. Nationally, £36m of new Government funding for young people's sport has been ring fenced for this programme.

Extending Activities funding is targeted at "semi - sporty" children, young people and young adults living in Surrey's 11 boroughs & districts.  It will engage them in an extra 1-2 hours a week (minimum 10 weeks) of high quality sport and physical activity.

In 2008/09 the Surrey programme will be able to fund local organisations, clubs, schools, etc, to deliver approximately 50 sport and activity projects per school term (Autumn and Spring).

Surrey has been allocated £98,700 to engage 2,592 semi sporty young people by March 2009. A further £292,200 will be available in Year 2 & 3 to support another 8,892 young people participate in more sport.
