Bus Permits

FREE NATIONWIDE BUS TRAVEL FOR THE OVER 60’S AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Senior Citizen and Disabled bus permits

As of the 1st April 2008, Runnymede residents who are either over the age of 60 and those under 60 with certain qualifying disabilities are now entitled to free local bus travel throughout England. The new arrangement funded by Runnymede Borough Council means that you can travel from 9.00am until 11pm on weekdays and all day weekends and bank holidays. Disabled person’s permit can be used at any times during the day.

In order to take advantage of the free travel you will require a permit issued by the Council. There are four types of permits, namely;

1. Senior Citizens - for residents of 60 or over

2. Senior Citizens Companion - for residents over 60 who require assistance when travelling (the companion also travels free of charge)

3. Disabled - for residents under the age of 60 who are visually impaired, profoundly or severely deaf, without speech, suffering from a substantial and long term adverse effect on their ability to walk, without the use of both arms, with a learning disability or otherwise likely to be refused a driving licence on medical grounds

4. Disabled Companion - for residents under 60 in one of the above categories who require assistance when travelling (the companion travels free of charge)

These can be obtained from the Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone; either in person, during normal office hours, or by post (please mark your envelopes for the attention of the Bus Pass Team).

All applications must be accompanied by documentary proof of your address and either age (senior Citizens permits), medical condition (disabled persons permits) or the need for assistance when travelling (Companion permits). Where possible, particularly for postal applications, these should be photocopies rather than originals. A printable version of the application form can be found below.
