Dog breeding licences

The relevant legislation in this area of licensing is the Breeding of Dogs Acts 1973 and 1991.

A "breeding establishment" applies to any person who carries on a business of breeding dogs with a view to their being sold in the course of such business.

The Act prescribes standards of management and accommodation and provides for process of inspection.

Anyone carrying on such a business who is not licensed should apply for a licence by contacting Technical Services and appropriate information and/or forms will be provided. An initial inspection of the premises will be carried out, followed by an annual inspection, upon renewal of the licence.
