Dirty food shops or restaurants

Our role

Environmental Health Officers investigate complaints relating to dirty food shops or restaurants and hygiene practices within the Borough of Runnymede. Things that we will investigate include:

  • people smoking in kitchens, store rooms or preparation rooms
  • pets or animals in kitchens, store rooms or preparation rooms
  • sightings of vermin or pests on food premises
  • poor levels of cleanliness in kitchens, store rooms or preparation rooms
  • poor food handling practices

It is our aim to ensure that food and drink sold in Runnymede is safe to consume.

Trading Standards investigate complaints about customer service or quality or food price.

What will happen?

If the complaint is investigated by Environmental Protection Division, and the premises is in Runnymede a visit to the premises concerned is usually made. If the complaint is outside our jurisdiction we pass on the information provided to the relevant Local Authority. Details of complainants are not revealed to the premises when the complaint is investigated by Runnymede's Environmental Protection Division.

We will then contact you to let you know what has happened.
