This policy outlines the implications for the allocation of social housing arising from the implementation of the Homelessness Act 2002. Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 sets out the framework for the allocation of social housing. Runnymede Borough Council ('the council') present Allocation Scheme was established following the implementation of the legislation in 1996. The Homelessness Act 2002 substantially amends and extends Part VI of the 1996 Act. A number of changes will have important implications for the way social housing is allocated in the future.
The overall aim of the Council's policy is to ensure that all social housing in the Borough is allocated fairly and objectively to those most in need, having regard to any legislative requirements and any regulations of Codes of Guidance issued by The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
