Flood recovery advice

There are no longer any flood warnings in place in Runnymede, but there are flood alerts. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant, with advice available on our flood recovery page and up to date information on the flood warning pages on the Environment Agency website.

The National Flood Forun will be providing a drop-in sessions and will be available at the Runnymede Civic Centre, Station Road, Addlestone 9.30am to 12.30pm on the following days:

  • Friday 11 April 2014
  • Friday 25 April 2014
  • Friday 2 May 2014

The National Flood Forum also provide a telephone helpline for all flood related enquires including insurance. You can contact them on 01299 403 055 or visit their website

Repair and Renew Grant

Did you know you can apply to Surrey County Council for up to £5000 to better protect your home against flooding? The Repair and Renew Grant is a national scheme now available to those whose home or business premises were internally damaged by flooding between 1 December 2013 and 31 March 2014.

The grant can only be spent on new measure that would minimise the impact of a future flood on your property. This is not a grant which can be used to replace items like carpets, curtains or furniture and it is recommended that you seek professional advice on which measure(s) may best protect your property.

Changes to Business Rates from 1 April 2014

In its Autumn Statement, the Government announced some changes to Business Rates which will come into effect from 1 April 2014. For more information, read the changes to Business Rates leaflet.

Council Tax – Changes to properties with annexes

From 1 April 2014, a new Council Tax discount of 50% is being introduced for family annexes.

If you currently have an annexe which is lived in by a family member you can receive a 50% discount on the annexe from 1 April 2014. In order to qualify for the discount, the annexe must be either used by the resident(s) of the main property or occupied by a family member. If a non family member occupies the annexe the discount will not apply.

Some annexes are already exempt from Council Tax and these will not be affected by the new discount and will continue to be exempt. If you think you may qualify for the discount please contact the Council Tax section on 01932 425400.

Planning Policy latest news

The Council submitted the Local Plan Core Strategy (LPCS) to the Secretary of State on 20 January 2014 for consideration. More information on the LPCS and the Examination process can be found on the Council’s New Local Plan Examination webpage.
