Alternatively, you can email us at recycling@runnymede.gov.uk
How early in the morning should I put my boxes out?
The recycling service starts collecting from 7.00am, unless otherwise specified. To ensure your recycling is collected, you will need to have your box out before this time.
Where should I leave my box on collection day?
Your recycling box must be left at the front boundary of your property, or, at a common point agreed directly with the council. After collection the box will be returned to the same position.
What about elderly, infirm or disabled people?
Residents can request an assisted collection by contacting the Runnymede Recycling Hotline on 0800 052 0067. A member of staff may visit and assess the circumstances.
My box was not emptied but my neighbours' was. Will they come back for mine?
Please contact the Runnymede Recycling Hotline on 0800 052 0067 and they will deal with your enquiry.
What happens if the box is damaged, lost or stolen?
If a box is damaged, lost or stolen the council will provide a replacement box free of charge. Please contact the Runnymede Recycling Hotline to obtain a new box on 0800 052 0067.
Why has the council decided to supply another box to residents to recycle?
From the feedback we have had from our residents, plastics, food waste and cardboard seem to be the biggest problems when trying to recycle. So Runnymede Borough Council have increased its recycling material it collects to help residents collect more as well as striving to reach its recycling target. This new scheme will improve our service to you and help us all play a part in combating climate change.
What if I can't fit my rubbish in my bin?
If you recycle and compost everything you can in your recycling containers you should have very little waste over. Please ensure that all waste is contained inside the bin with the lid closed.
If you really can't fit all your waste in your bin then please contact the Runnymede Recycling Hotline on 0800 0520067 and we will send someone from our recycling team to visit you and offer advice.
Will I get flies and maggots in my wheeled bin if it's not collected every fortnight?
No, Flies and maggots are caused by rotting food waste. Please remember that we will be collecting your food waste on your recycling collection day every week!
Why can't I use an ordinary plastic bag to line my food-waste caddy?
Plastic bags will not rot down in the composting process. We will be supplying a roll of liners which are able to compost as they are made from corn starch. If you do decide to use liners please ensure that they are marked as compliant with BSEN 13432.
Or why not use a piece of newspaper to line the caddy…its free!?
Can I have extra recycling containers?
Additional containers may be provided; please contact us.
Is the Council authorised to make these changes?
Yes. Under its duties and powers in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Runnymede Borough Council is authorised to specify what type of container it will collect waste in and the frequency of its collection.
