Aluminium Foil
Clean aluminium foil can be put in your blue box for kerbside collection. Alternatively, it can be taken to one of the Surrey County Council Community Recycling Centres.

Asbestos
Asbestos is generally safe when left alone so it is best to avoid tampering with it. If work needs to be done on a large amount a specialist contractor should be hired. If you do choose to remove asbestos personally then you are allowed to take a limited amount of asbestos cement material to the Charlton Lane Transfer Station, Shepperton Tel: 01932 782792.

Materials accepted are:

  • Corrugated or flat sheets
  • Cold water tanks
  • Rainwater pipes and gutters
  • Flue pipes
  • Roofing tiles
  • Floor tiles

Phone the transfer station before you load your vehicle to ensure that there is enough space in the specialist container for your load. When you arrive inform a member of staff that you are bringing asbestos. They will direct you to where you must deposit it.

Please see the "Household Waste Guide" on the Surrey County Council website for more information. Or you can phone the Surrey County Council Contact Centre on 03456 009 009 - open Monday to Friday: 8am - 6pm.

Nappies
Disposable nappies make up 50% of waste for a family with one child. Disposable nappies are disposed of in landfill. Raw sewage, consisting of bacteria and viruses, produces a toxic liquid (leachate), which can pollute groundwater. The rotting process also gives off gases, including methane, which adds to global warming and can cause explosions. As one child may wear up to 5,000 nappies before potty training have you considered using real nappies? A number of nappy laundering services operate in Runnymede. Alternatively, you could consider washing nappies at home.
