P & G Surrey Youth Games

The P&G Surrey Youth Games is the largest youth sports competition in Surrey and allows young people aged 7 to 16 to play a wide range of sports at a competitive level. It is a great opportunity to try out a new sport or improve on the skills you already have, free of charge, with the help of dedicated and qualified sports coaches.

All eleven Districts and Boroughs in Surrey enter teams (across all sports) into the competition. There is then an overall winning Borough or District from the results across all sports.

Runnymede Borough Council will be providing 8 weeks of free coaching in the different sports starting 16 April and running up to the competition weekend. In order to be eligible for team Runnymede you must either live or go to school in Runnymede and meet the eligibility criteria for your chosen sport. During the 8 weeks of free coaching, a team will be selected in each sport and that team will go to the P&G Surrey Youth Games competition on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

To find out what sports you can take part in and where the training sessions are taking place please download the P&G Surrey Youth Games Booklet.

To register to take part please download and complete the P&G Surrey Youth Games Registration Form.

If you have any queries on the P&G Surrey Youth Games, please contact Emma Parnell on 01932 425677 or email Emma.Parnell@runnymede.gov.uk

ROAR

Runnymede Open Access Recreation (ROAR) was initially funded by the Big Lottery fund for three years to provide children aged 5 to 13 with free open access play in parks, open spaces and community venues across the borough after school and during school holidays.

The funding for ROAR has now come to an end and so future ROAR activities will be chargeable.

There is no formal supervision by the staff of Runnymede Borough Council during ROAR activity sessions and therefore children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by someone aged 13 or above (i.e. an older sibling or parent/guardian). The staff of Runnymede Council will be there to organise activities which are both challenging and fun. The purpose of the project is to encourage children to play with limited adult intervention. Children will be able to help plan ROAR sessions and choose the kind of play that they would like. The sessions are 'open access' which means children are free to come and go as they please and no bookings are required.

ROAR sessions are accessible for disabled children. Most indoor venues have disabled access, parking and toilets. However not all outdoor venues have toilet facilities or disabled parking and a few outdoor spaces e.g. woodland areas are not accessible for wheelchair users. Please call if you require further information. The equipment and activities we offer are adaptable to suit every child's needs. Children who require 1:1 support must be accompanied by an adult.

When your child attends a ROAR activity session for the first time you will be asked to complete an emergency contact information form. This is to ensure that in the event of your child having an accident or being involved in an incident when you are not present we can do our best to contact you and can offer basic first aid. Please print a copy of the form and bring it along to your first session completed with your child's details. Check in the What's On diary for the next ROAR event.

For more information about ROAR please contact the Activity Co-ordinator emma.parnell@runnymede.gov.uk or call 01932 425677.

Step into Sport Re-Launch

SIS is open to 14-19 year olds, who log volunteering hours to gain points that can lead to rewards. These rewards include leisure vouchers, tickets to sporting events, sports workshops and can even lead to a nomination for 'Young Volunteer of the Year' at the prestigious Surrey Sports Awards. Not only will these young people benefit from increased employability, meeting new people and gaining skills that will support them in the workplace, but the community too will benefit from a generation of young volunteers who work together to bring sports and activity to everyone.
