In the late 1950's Egham Urban District Council leased the American Bar Association a one acre piece of land next to the National Trust land at Runnymede. The ABA built the memorial shown above on this land as a tribute to the signing of the Magna Carta which was seen as the origins of the principle of 'Freedom under Law'.

The memorial is maintained the Magna Carta Trust under the Chairmanship of the Master of the Rolls.
