Surrey gains Clubmark licence

Runnymede Borough Council has worked with Active Surrey to obtain a Clubmark licence from Sport England. Together we can now award Clubmark accreditation to clubs, whose governing body does not have a licence, to demonstrate their commitment to providing a safe, effective and child friendly sporting environment.

All clubs who are affiliated to a Sport England recognised governing body now have the opportunity to gain Clubmark and join Runnymede’s 12 Clubmark accredited clubs.

Clubs who currently hold Clubmark accreditation can take advantage of Clubmark benefits by registering online with Active Surrey.

ROAR

Runnymede Open Access Recreation (ROAR) was initially funded by the Big Lottery fund for three years to provide children aged 5 to 13 with free open access play in parks, open spaces and community venues across the borough after school and during school holidays.

The funding for ROAR has now come to an end and so future ROAR activities will be chargeable.

There is no formal supervision by the staff of Runnymede Borough Council during ROAR activity sessions and therefore children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by someone aged 13 or above (i.e. an older sibling or parent/guardian). The staff of Runnymede Council will be there to organise activities which are both challenging and fun. The purpose of the project is to encourage children to play with limited adult intervention. Children will be able to help plan ROAR sessions and choose the kind of play that they would like. The sessions are 'open access' which means children are free to come and go as they please and no bookings are required.

ROAR sessions are accessible for disabled children. Most indoor venues have disabled access, parking and toilets. However not all outdoor venues have toilet facilities or disabled parking and a few outdoor spaces e.g. woodland areas are not accessible for wheelchair users. Please call if you require further information. The equipment and activities we offer are adaptable to suit every child's needs. Children who require 1:1 support must be accompanied by an adult.

When your child attends a ROAR activity session for the first time you will be asked to complete an emergency contact information form. This is to ensure that in the event of your child having an accident or being involved in an incident when you are not present we can do our best to contact you and can offer basic first aid. Please print a copy of the form and bring it along to your first session completed with your child's details. Check in the What's On diary for the next ROAR event.

For more information about ROAR please contact the Activity Co-ordinator emma.parnell@runnymede.gov.uk or call 01932 425677.
