 Welcome
Services for the elderly

Chertsey Museum now offers a reminiscence service for the elderly of the local area. A series of 12 reminiscence boxes have been compiled containing original and replica artefacts, sounds and even smells to help trigger conversations and the flow of memories between elders and staff.

Travel collection from reminiscence service

Themes covered by the boxes include:

  • Travel
  • Going Out
  • School days
  • Toys and Games

Each box also contains suggestions for related activities that could be done in conjunction with the box and the topic. We also have local history reminiscence photo packs that can be borrowed.

Reminiscence Service Catalogue

Reminiscence sessions have been found to be particularly beneficial for people recovering from strokes as well as those with early signs of dementia. Sessions can be done anywhere where older people get together or live such as day centres, residential homes, hospital wards, care homes and clubs.

Staff at any of these facilities can become members and borrow the boxes and packs for their use. Facilities can join on an annual basis (£30 for unlimited use of the boxes and packs) or on a pay as you go basis (£3 per box and £1 per photo pack)

Group Visits to Chertsey Museum

Bringing a group to Chertsey Museum is a simple, easy and a FREE outing. The museum is fully accessible throughout, with a lift and flat access.

If you would like to bring a group to the museum please ring us on 01932 565764 to make sure we do not have any other visiting groups that day.

We can then reserve the Pardoe Room for your group. In this room there are tables and chairs and we are able to put out cups, saucers, hot water and a teapot, so you will be able to have some refreshments as a group after looking around the museum. We ask that you bring you own teabags, milk, sugar and biscuits.

Alternatively we do have a hot drinks machine in the shop should you prefer.

There is a disabled parking space outside the museum to help with unloading wheelchairs and those needing some help. Unfortunately we are unable to reserve this for groups as it is a public space.
